Speaking III Final Exam

Due to scheduling conflicts, we will be having a separate debate competition from Bu Susi and Bu Fitri’s classes.

· DATE: Preliminary Rounds- Monday, January 9th

o Class A: 7:00-9:00

o Class C: 9:30-11:30

o Class B: 12:00-2:00

o Class D: 2:30-4:30

DATE: Final Round- Tuesday, January 10th 8:00-10:00 am

o TBA (To Be Announced): The 4 winning teams (1 per class) will compete in this round.

 

· FORMAT: Asian Parliamentary

 

· LENGTH OF SPEECHES: 4 minute speeches with a 2 minute reply

o Warning: Those who speak for fewer than 2 minutes will receive a failing grade.

 

· TEAMS: You may choose your own 3 person teams. You must email the names of your team members by Wednesday, January 4th. If you cannot find a team, please SMS (081228105955) or email (rachelwisthuff@gmail.com) me ASAP.

 

· MOTION: Each class will have a different motion that will be posted 30 minutes before the debate begins.

 

· POI: Every person will be expected to give at least 1 point of information. POI’s should be no longer than 15 seconds.

 

· REQUIREMENTS: While notes are allowed, no person shall be allowed to read his/her notes.

o Warning: Those who read from their notes will receive a failing grade.

 

· GRADING CRITERIA:

o Manner: Such things as volume, clarity, presentation, and body contact (40%)

o Matter: Such things as arguments, rebuttals, definitions, and evidence (40%)

o Method: Organization of one’s team and fulfilling one’s role in the debate (20%)
